In 2022 the Ministry for the Environment called for expressions of interest (EOI) from organisations to develop and deliver large-scale, national-level behaviour-change programmes that reduce food waste and emissions.
Several programmes have received support by the Ministry and we are excited to announce that Kai Keepers is one of those. All programmes will aim to reduce food waste in one of three settings: households; Māori-led settings (such as marae, kōhango reo, kura kaupapa, papakāinga) and businesses. Alongside Kai Keepers, the other supported organisations will be designing, developing and delivering programmes that reduce food waste over a three-year period and will contribute to reducing food waste by 10 per cent.
The Restaurant Association would like to acknowledge and thank the Ministry for their support of Kai Keepers.
